Intolerance of Oral Iron.

Iron is an essential nutrient to life, but oral iron supplements have long come with a reputation for debilitating side effects such as constipation, bloating, and nausea. It is estimated that 8/10 people who take iron supplements report side effects¹, with 50% stopping taking their supplements entirely².

What does Intolerance of Oral Iron Mean?

Iron-rich foods, including red meat, liver, beans, nuts & fortified cereals, are a great way to increase your iron intake through your diet.

However, consuming these foods alone often isn’t enough to increase your iron levels, and oftentimes, oral iron supplements are prescribed, especially to those at risk of iron deficiency.

Ferrous Fumarate is a high-dose, oral iron that is often recommended to patients with or on the brink of iron deficiency.

While oral iron may be a great solution for increasing iron stores, these products often cause nasty gastrointestinal side effects, leading to consumers discontinuing treatment.

Side Effects of Oral Iron.

There are many signs that you are intolerant to oral iron, usually gastrointestinal.  If you take oral iron supplements, you may experience the following side effects.

  • Feel nauseous
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation
  • Darker than usual stools

One study revealed that the impact of gastrointestinal side effects related to oral iron therapy results in non-adherence in up to 50% of patients².

Active Iron is Different.

Most iron supplements dissolve in the stomach. This can lead to oxidation and gut inflammation, which can lead to common side effects associated with iron supplements, such as constipation and nausea. Active Iron is different. Its ground-breaking whey protein formula targets the right place for absorption, the DMT-1. This helps reduce oxidation, thus protecting the gut from inflammation. As a result, Active Iron is highly absorbed compared to other iron supplements³, making it gentle on the stomach, and clinical results have shown that it increases iron levels by 94%⁴.
