Why is iron important during pregnancy?

Iron is very important during pregnancy for both you and your developing baby. Iron plays a key role in transporting oxygen all around the body and it is required to make extra blood (haemoglobin). It contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and plays an important role in normal energy metabolism, cognitive function, and immune.
